Carrying it Forward
Carrying It Forward: John Jacobs on Family, Community, and the Next Generation of Philanthropy

“Philanthropy isn’t always about money—it’s about being present and engaged in our community.”
For John Jacobs, philanthropy has never been something abstract. It’s something he grew up seeing modeled through action, consistency, and care.
“Growing up, I saw philanthropy modeled through action,” John shares. “I learned that community is something you invest in.”
Those early examples—passed down through family and lived out in everyday ways—shaped how John understands generosity today. It wasn’t about having everything figured out. It was about being present.
John’s commitment is rooted in place. North Georgia isn’t just where he lives—it’s home.
“I’ve seen the power of philanthropy throughout my life,” John says. “No matter your age or stage—it’s about showing up and being part of something bigger than yourself. That’s how we make an impact in our community.”
That belief ultimately led John to become a founding member of The Oak Society, a program of the North Georgia Community Foundation focused on long-term community impact.

“Being a founding member of The Oak Society felt like a chance to invest in a vision that aligns with my values,” he explains.
For John, the Oak Society represents more than participation—it represents connection. It’s about coming together with others who care deeply about the future of North Georgia and choosing to build something meaningful, together.
“This community is a special place to call home—shaped by the people who care about it.”
Through NGCF and The Oak Society, John has found a way to carry forward what he was taught growing up: that generosity is lived, community is built, and impact happens when people show up for one another.
For Good. For Ever.
