Gus Whalen Young Philanthropist Award

Gus was a true visionary in our community notably remembered for advocating that anyone can be a philanthropist. He believed real giving is done by people with modest means who have a heart for giving.

The Award

This award was established in 2016 to honor the legacy of Gus Whalen by recognizing and encouraging extraordinary philanthropic actions of the next generation. Nominees must be between the ages of 18 and 40 and possess the desire to enhance the quality of life in local communities through their volunteer service.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Demonstrated commitment to one or more nonprofit organizations in the NGCF region
  • Passion for helping others
  • Sincere desire to make the community a better place
  • Proven track record of motivating peers to participate
  • 18-40 years old

Nomination Process:

All nominations should include a nomination form, narrative summary outlining the individual’s volunteer accomplishments, and letters of support from organizations benefitting from the nominee’s service. Detailed information is provided on the nomination form, which is typically available each summer.
